So I'm currently absorbed in a book called INTO THIN AIR by Jon Krakauer - just half way through. I have not been this excited by a book since The Demon in the Freezer by Richard Preston. I'm resorting to a fantasy - adventure phase recently. I just sliced some pumpkin cheesecake, poured a glass of soy nog and took a moment to read & play on the computer. I've been wanting to take pictures of my viral collection that I've acquired from over the years, and so, tonight I tried to put together a few of my favorite items.

Well here is some; not all from my ridiculously-obsessive-science-virology-crap collection: & as if you weren't already tired of seeing me post on this fucking shit. Yes still obsessed... not nearly as interesting as a pair of tits - but hell! You've gotta love some Ebola.

This is one of those hanging sign fluorescent lights... Bryan actually found this beaut on Ebay some Christmases ago as a present for me. I can't believe how bad - ass this is!

This shirt rules - we were made for each other!

Q: If Black Death battles Ebola who would you bet on to win ? (will post answer later)

Ebola. It's stronger because I believe it is newer. Unless we are less immune and it's actually weaker. Hrmm.

Nice shirt. Very nice.

Well no one knows the exact age of Ebola hemorrhagic fever. The first infection was documented in the mid 70's. It could be much older, or in theory just ultra-evolved archaea bacteria made super-virus. I would be devastated to learn that EHF was created by man as a biological-terror weapon. I'm certain it very could well be, but isn't, not yet at least...

So yes in accordance to the first documented case, it would be much younger than the Plague.

Wow your collection is so impressive! Whenever I see the biohazard logo/sign I get weak in the knees. The other day I saw a Biohazard sticker on a car & it made me happy just staring at it. I have a friend who enjoys reading Robin Cook I saw a couple new Robin Cook books at this store here for real cheap.

I don't know much about Ebola just what I've read from you but hot diggity damn what a collection & I've always thought it's damn cool & spiffy that your into virology in fact your the first person I know that is into that subject. You should take more pictures with Zaire:) And I also love that shirt. Since I don't know much about Ebola I'd say the Blck Death would win. When pissed before I used to tell my Mom that I was going to set the black death upon her household, lol.

How is your Grandma doing?

I don't think I've read anything else by Robin Cook - just this book. I would be shocked & excited if a book existed on Ebola or Marburg that I haven't already read or purchased into my collection. You think after a decade of this subject I'd tire it out, but my passion for it just seems to get larger & larger. I think the vaccine research trials they've been working on are absolutely outstanding - history in the making! Unfortunately their first human-vaccine attempt was a complete failure.

Hehe, this is just a part of my collection, I have all my Richard Preston books, and my coffee Mug, and some other little booklets and what-not... I'm terrible at organizing so finding even this part was tough. I see no point in getting organized now - when i'm in the process of moving anyway. I'm the first person you know into Virology - really?? I've seen so many people into this subject lately - I love seeing the horde of science and med students growing, we are taking over the world - ! *flexes*

=)

My Grandmother is doing OK. It's all very complicated right now - she isn't able to feed herself, bathe herself or walk on her own so my mother & myself are doing all this for her until we can get a proper nurse to help her out. It's a lot of work. I can't wait until the next semester. There hasn't been class this week due to Thanksgiving, and it's just been really hectic over here. I stopped playing WoW and am thinking of playing again - it's just been hard to get really into things like that recently. I begin to feel bad about "playing" when everything is so stressful. Bryan has been helping a lot, and we've been doing a lot of shopping. He's really fucked up though, his entire gum is infected and he is getting surgery next Wednesday to remove his wisdom teeth. Apparently he waited too long and the nerves are wrapped in complex ways which make it a tricky area for the extraction. Always trouble in paradise... actually though - things are getting a lot better, I think the next step is all the legalities of this entire situation. The detectives are still trying to track this guy =\

Your passion seems to be the same as mine except mines for True Crime & Serial Murder (which you already know.) I don't follow up on it as much as before mainly because I'm not really interested in the newer cases the older cases are so much better but whenever I do run into a book or anything that has to do with that subject surrounding the older cases I get immensely excited.

They had a book on "The Black Dahlia Murder" once but my friends convinced me to buy a book on logos instead. Do you still have a chance to be able to go to the research trials in Maryland? I remember seeing a picture where you had one of those syringe dispenser things with a biohazard symbol I believe or a radioactivity one. I immensely enjoyed reading the link you shared with me on Ebola vs the Black Death. I had always thought that it was caused by the fleas on the rats since that is what I had read in books & I always thought that 'The Black Death' & 'The Bubonic Plague' were the same exact thing but after reading that article I know I was wrong.

Well since your moving you can sort them all out & put them in a box so that when you move you can put all of the stuff you have that has to do with Virology/Ebola together & make a sort of shrine;P Don't listen to me I'm silly. And yes you are the first person I know that is into Virology most of the people I know are either into stuff about computers, engineering, criminology, artists/graphic designers, marine biologists, or literature.

I mean my Sister was into the Outbreak book & movie & stuff of that sort but she never liked it as much to actually study that for a living. I think the book Congo also had to do with something about diseases but I'm not exactly sure. I think she always thought that she'd be working with dolphins/turtles & then she got stuck working in the National Institutes of Health with mice & stuff which she didn't like at first but she recently got promoted & is now getting paid $20.00 an hour.

When you posted the ocean life photos it reminded me so much of my Sister & her passion for all of that. What's most important is that your Grandma is getting the care from the people she love's most, I can imagine that it is a lot of work. Hopefully when you do get the nurse she won't charge as much. Happy Thanksgiving btw! I had regular pumpkin pie it was beyond glorious I think I'm going to make some soon for Miguel it is a lot cheaper to make it then to buy a slice of it here. I'd love to try the pumpkin pie cheesecake one day.

Just the thought of it makes my mouth water. I think that maybe you should start playing WoW again because according to Miguel when he plays Mu it de-stresses him we all know that isn't a word but still;P Don't feel bad about it because it isn't your fault that your Grandmother was assaulted by that guy & I'm more than sure that she wants you to be calm & not stressed which is a really difficult thing to do but I think it's for the best.

Tell Bryan that I hope he recovers from the wisdom teeth removal soon as I think I once told you I went through hell & back when I got mine removed (4 at once.) I never want to have to deal with that shit again. Does he look like a chipmunk with nuts in his mouth? How long did he wait that it got infected? Let me know when the detectives have a lead. You & your Grandma have been in my thoughts. <3

Ebola is absolutely perfect! Quite possibly even the most beautiful thing to exist. Yes, it was a trick question. Smarty Pants Above me ^^ gave the whole answer away already. So no one wins - if both are related to each other, it would be like defeating yourself; pointless if one aids an other. But technically based on what they are capable of separately - Ebola would be the winner, which is technically the loser because it's so virulent and fatal. The point is to sustain the host > spread, not kill it's host > defeat it, but well, Ebola is just a bad-ass, Ha!

*gives you a slice* It was very rich - one piece was almost too much. Aw thanks! I was looking around my house for all my this stuff, and realized I have some of it over at my boyfriend's house & since we're moving... I have this shit everywhere! Well, I'm not very organized either - to find my entire book collection alone would just be impossible.

Yes going for my RN & am Pre-Med - I'm at a split now, most of the classes I needed for my major & for my RN counted for the same but now it's the part where I have to pick the first path. I'm playing the waiting game, I'm finally eligible but I won't know until January when the new semester begins. I just have a ton of math credits left (and I have some PE units to fulfill). I also am planning to transfer to university in Hayward - hopefully I'll be approved for financial aid this term and be able to. What about you?

I'm doing pretty much the same, finishing up pre-requisites for Nursing school and trying to transfer to San Jose State so I don't need to sit around in Santa Cruz on their mighty waiting list. I should be finished by 2010 at this point, I'm hoping.

Whoa Newark Rasputin's closed down? I object! SLZ Rasputin's sucks now without Jenn there, I had Jenn order me 3 CD's 1.5 years ago, and they never arrived. Biohazard is that a thrash band? Sounds familiar, though can't place it - I know this symbol is a trendy thing but It reminds me of BSL4 and labs, which excites me. Don't get me started on my space-suit fetish >.< Those men in those suits, with the chemical flower symbol... God Damn.

Yup awhile ago. A lot of their people came to the SLZ one. I liked Newark better cause they stocked the punk/metal sections on time... UNLIKE SLZ.

Biohazard is a crossover rap-metal band from NY that started in the 80's. They were pretty huge. They rule very hard, but alas do not don suits emblazoned with chemical flower symbols.

This even confuses me sometimes, "technically" my Major and program will be in "Microbiology" because university only has that program; and it's the closest thing to what I really want to do. On paper i'm a Microbio Major, but Yes, Virologist; Viral Pathologist. I heard a rumor that SF state allows you to make your own major, but I can't afford that school so I have to stick to what I can afford. Eventually > virology, but I have to fulfill all the microbio courses, even if I won't even need some of them =\ So I am *trying* to get accepted for financial aid to cover it, because it's ridiculous to have to pay for classes that I won't "technically" even need when that second fork in the road crops up. OR I'll get lucky and be able to afford the university that honors my major in virology. We'll see either way, I'm just taking what I can get right now. How's school going for you? Have you been accepted into the RN program - or already in it? RN's make so much money and there is always such a demand in the med-field.

Impressive collection, that biohazard sign is super sweet.
Viral outbreaks and plagues remind me of how unprepared the world is and how fragile humans are to extinction.

As far as Black Death vs. Ebola, I’d bet on Ebola only because I read once that the Black Death was caused by an Ebola-like virus.
Feel free to school me if I’m wrong ;)

Dang woman..I think your literary collection has gotten bigger than the last time I actually looked at it. I think it really dawned on me how much information on this subject your brain had obtained when we watched that nova documentary. You knew who half the people in the video were and kept getting excited to point them out. It was rather charming hearing you yell out "Ooooh! He wrote an article I have in Scientific American!" Or "Oh! Oh! He was the guy who discovered (insert some random factoid here)."

I am planning on doing a late-night run to Half Price this week..let me know if you & Burn wish to come with.
