I met Perry Gallagher through Deviantart, I value his work tremendously - so it is such an honor to actually connect with him. I started speaking to Michael Helms through dA just over the week, and he is also so warm, it’s just been wonderful. Perry has the most comforting voice, and overall demeanor I really was surprised, because his work is so intimidating. So, we phoned today to discuss plans this morning as we’ve been talking of working together, for awhile now - but my school schedule and his shooting schedule is outrageous so it’s been difficult. Today I spoke to Perry for little over an hour about everything from life, to photography and everything else and created a solid plan for me to drive up this summer to work on our project.

I’m nervous about this trip, because I’m not a model and I just want to have fun, and do the things I know I’ll regret not doing if I never do them.

photo dun been did by: Jenn, (who else)

He works in a lot of fine-art nude so you must have an account with dA to view his visuals, if you may be interested in seeing his work. (it's worth the look, imho)

Congratulation, Hilary!

Just looking over his gallery briefly, seems there is a profound degree of skill there. I can understand your excitement. This sounds like a grand opportunity to take advantage of.

I think you've made a fair accounting of the need for both the clinical and the artistic in life...and if you ever figure out a comfortable balance or formula for their merger...let me know. I find myself drifting back and forth between them, with far too much spent in a grey area that constitutes nothing.

But hey, don't be nervous about this. You've shown the capacity to express more in a silent gaze than most could ever with a novel. I'm sure this effect will only be magnified by working with such a highly skilled photographer. I'm keen to see what works this venture will produce. Again, my heartfelt congratulations to you and I'm pleased you've found someone with whom you can escape the conventions of everyday life. The evolution of self is unattainable without a fresh mind and a vast scope of vision. :)

Thanks Erich =) It hasn't happened yet... but I am really excited by this opportunity. I feel very able to do things I've never done before, and take a plunge into expressing things I always wanted, but never dared do.

I'm mostly nervous because he's worked with many a, quote on quote skilled and popular models on the web + so forth. So I feel like the person who brings the clam dip, at an expensive dinner party. I'm excited, overall.

I have class at 600PM, and was thinking of relaxing it up, & hitting the battlegrounds on my Mage, should you feel like joining =) I'll be in Azeroth pwning them alliance sons of bitches !

PS: (I get my mid-term grade back tonight)

I'm extremely glad to hear you speaking this way. And also, "I feel like the person who brings the clam dip, at an expensive dinner party"? That made me smile. That's actually really an insightful description. I'm telling you, Hilary. You should look into trying your hand at some writing as well. I've said it since the day we met and I'm sticking to my guns on this!

Wow? Hmmm...yes...fuck yes...I find that a GRAND idea. :)

And "just in case" I log. Heh. That will be a forgone conclusion. My fucking wrist is aching from all the time I spent on WoW over the weekend. Makes me think of that South Park episode and laugh heartedly at myself. ;)

Hope to speak with you in a bit then. I'm going to drink my protein shake and hit the shower before I log.

Jenn likes stuffing me into couches and strange crevices, on a daily basis so we thought we'd actually document it on film for a change. Ha!

School is taking over my life, and my thoughts. I'm not taking a lot this semester - only some undergrad units that are transferable. I want to graduate already!! Really ready, counting the days. I feel so lame >_< yet it's satisfying my geeky, geeky needs =) Science is Cool, Man! Yeah - school is numero uno in my life, well that and the boy and friends, so I don't plan to put the brakes on that anytime soon.

Must be interesting being both scientific and artistic. Most of the time it's mutually exclusive, like a jealous lover.

I'm sure it will be worth the wait to see what you and Perry come up with. You both have such interesting galleries. Shame I'm the impatient type but luckily for me, summer is coming up for you isn't it?

Yes, you are completely correct there - the stigma; medical science vs. creativity & spirituality. Last semester I had a medical nursing | terminology professor who was a very stern, woman. Very sharp, but lacked complete understanding for anything that fell into the art category, to her life was either black or white - nothing else. No mediums. She once tried to doodle on the board an example of striated muscle, and staphylococcus and she made some remark that really stuck with me: "I'm a nursing instructor, I don't like art and you don't need an artistic example if your all in here anyways there is no point", so she had trouble drawing the examples. I felt like she was speaking for ME, the class. As if we all, had to deny any outside or internal influences based OFF Medical science, to be any good at it.

And then it struck me, Nursing is not my thing - I'm going to keep focusing on my Microbiology degree and viral science research. You see I completely disagree when people say science & art can not co-exist because as someone going for their title in virology predominately, my job will be to research - progress - advance to think up ideas, and to create, within the realm of science, and the human and animal physiological structure. Veterinary pathology is included in this field of study, also. And it's not something you look to a textbook to understand, it's a field and career involving art to discover and expressively translate your research, through surgical, mathematical ways - it very much involves creativity. Thus the creation of like say penicillin. Those British scientists, didn't just have an epiphany from some textbook written in black or white - they had to discover, and that's also an art.

I'm unusually patient. Nerve-riddled but overall patient. I have to do a lot of that in the house I live in to catch some time to myself, as it's pretty noisy here. Ha,Ha. And school, has taught me how to discipline myself, without conforming to the basic standards, therein. I can be a stress case though, so! I'm sure the night before I leave I'll be having some fun ass insomnia. (shakes head)

Perry is a very gifted man. He has this soothing quality that most all photographers lack - I feel so at ease and ambitious when I speak to him. I feel wonderful about this project, and hope I'll be able to transfer all that onto film, too.

I'm trying so hard to gain weight, and I've barely hit 97 pounds, as of the start of April. Should I make weight, I'd love to have a cup of tea or two with you ;-) I need to travel more in general, I get bored easily when I'm in one place too long!

Seems like most people (myself included) are so unsure of what career path to go for, but you have a dedication to something you truly enjoy. I wish you all the best in your academic pursuits and I'm sure with all the passion you seem to have for the subject, you'll be great at it.

He,He. Truth be told my methods are rather scatter-brain. I keep one very solid goal and keep it - and let everything else just go from there. I've learned that the more you detail & plan, the less it goes your way. I cannot do something if my feelings wane, or turn neutral - I need to love what I do, in order to really do it. I have never gotten anything by forcing something that just ain't right. Fortunately, I think science & I agree with each other -

My boyfriend always reminds me when I'm stressed, or out of sorts, that I should keep my head up, because I discovered at a very young age: what I felt a purpose in life for - and kept that vision, alive & vivid all through adolescents and maturity, to now - (whatever the hell you call the era of where I am now) and I often think, I take that for granted. I feel fortunate to know how to love something so much, and have this much passion for what I'm doing. I always thought It was too wild to even dream about - and I got a chance to enter college a year early, fuck up and half-ass it in classes for a few years and over the past 2YRS. devote and discipline myself to what I love more than anything. It took a lot of fucking up to focus myself - and I still have bouts of self-doubt, but I know there is nothing else here for me, that I'll care --this-- much for. I often times feel like people think I'm nuts! Or just overly-dramatic, but you cannot help what makes you tick - and you cannot even try to mute it -

Whatever you love, pursue wholeheartedly. Some days you just don't feel like making it to work or class, and you wonder what your doing, like a chicken running around with it's head cut-off, but overall it just comes down to the end result and pushing anyways. Do what you love & love who you are when your doing it, and that's your path, I'd like to think.

Your icon is staring at me ='(( and making me hungry!

Thank you bundles for your encouraging insight. All the best to you and your personal pursuits =)

I am familiar with them both, seeing how I have a tendency to lean towards photography that is not mainstream, but just the nicest blend of a little un-traditional with a sense naturalness. I like how both of their styles seem to have a soft overlay. You are right I think, about no hallow pursuits, and I believe they do both capture the individual. So I shall sweetly be looking forward to seeing your images:) You know I adore you.

I read about the stalker--issue ='(( and I just want to send along my comfort - and hopefully this issue will all sort itself, so you can get some peace. You do not deserve that kind of abuse. Sometimes I am really frightened by the types of people who don't know how to let go... can't a male flatter/respect a lady good & proper, without trying to consume and alienate them? (sigh)

"Jenn likes stuffing me into couches and strange crevices, on a daily basis so we thought we'd actually document it on film for a change. Ha! "
OMGILOLED! Haha! I hope you get a good break soon, I don't know how you do it. I can't wait to start college again but I'm so scared about the stress and studying and everything else involved. I also never took an ACT/SAT so I have to schedule for the school's exam and I get so nervous and horrible anxiety when around a LOT of people.
I sure hope you get to meet up with those photographers! And I absolutely love the image Jenn did for you, I love looking at her images! She already has her own uniqueness that if someone randomly saw it they'd think, "Oh, that's Jenn's lovely work!" I'm scheduling to meet up with some photographers after my birthday in May. *fingers crossed* Two of my close friends ditched me for the West Coast (Seattle and LA) so maybe one day I'll experiance what the West Coast is like.

Ha,Ha! It's true, Jenn's a devious little fucker, despite all appearances.

http://www.testprepreview.com/sat_practice.htm

Above is a link to a site that actually gives you some example questions, and has a list on the left to all other exams - along with some help for each exam. Take it from me, do not stress out over it - pace yourself. I learned to really center myself, and I'm still working on that, through as silly as it sounds, meditation. You need to find something that grounds you, and exams > school > stresses, start to unravel and fall into place.

Never go into an exam thinking you'll just have previous knowledge or can wing it - Never works.

Yeah, it sucks the scheduled testing days aren't private =\ I hate having to take exams with a large class, I'm always more nervous then. But find a grounding thought, and take it in stride - you'll be fine!

School is actually pretty tame right now, in compare to my last semester. Summer I'm taking only 12 units. And it's getting pricey - since I'm broke as fuck. I am taking a grant/student loan out to pay for it all.

Come on over here! Jenn and myself would love to shoot you and your family =D I look forward to seeing some of the new work you do with these photographers, I hope =)

Thanks very much for the sweet notations =) When do you begin school? are you still going for RN or diff. branch?

Thanks for the link! I really need to study because I really don’t want to have to take any remedial courses. And these days it’s a toss up between RN or Paralegal. I’m sort of leaning towards Paralegal (or maybe even a lawyer one day) because I’m really passionate about child custody cases since I’ve been involved in one after a friend passed away leaving behind a baby with an abusive father (that’s all still going on unfortunately). I’m also passionate about being an RN and working either with an Endocrine clinic or pediatrics. I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know! Hahahahaha! I know they are two completely different fields but they are both two things that I know I will really be able to excel in. The RN will just be longer even though the college I’m going to has a two year clinical program…but there’s a waiting list SO…
I’m really hoping one day I’ll make it over there. My friend here lived in San Francisco for a while and I really want to see it, not only that but I have a long time friend that lives there and now I’m dying to see Seattle and Portland since my in-laws went. Maybe we’ll plan a family vacation there next. You guys need to come over here one day too!

Thanks again for the link and advice. I really should try meditation. I think that would help me out with several issues!

Breathtakingly stunning, as to be expected. (smile)

I agree with your statement about how it is possible for science and art to co-exist in one. Not only are you an excellent example of this, but there are others out there as well, perhaps not as goal-oriented as yourself, mind you, but they are still alive and well - you are not alone in this.

With sharing your thoughts, own goals and documenting the process of completing such things, helps in giving myself the courage to do the same, as I am sure others, and I sincerely thank you for this. In all you do, I hope you succeed and flourish, but most of all, have one hell of a time. (smile) And no, you are certainly not the only person who actually gives a fuck about what they're accomplishing in life.

There are many strangers out there that will continue to believe that their ignorance is wanted (as we already talked about with the "ur hawt, LOLZZ OMGZZ") Unfortunately, we must all learn our own ways to deal with such individuals.

Your really sweet to say, such things!

Isn't it funny when you never intend on something and then it happens out of the blue? I love life's little strange surprises.

I always planned what I'd say when I meet Ebola, Not a super-sweet photographer! (laugh) That was a bad example =P But really!

Oh, I know every individual has fabulous fits of all kinds of shit just waiting to be dreamed up, and spit out back into the world - I don't doubt that, and I marvel driven, dreamy, people. People mad, to take apart everything in their life to push toward something they have absolute regard for. There is nothing more beautiful in a person, I find. I just wonder out loud sometimes - I've noticed the more I do, even though I may inadvertently offend someone - I find people who relate. I'd rather know a handful of people like that, than 1 million people waiting to hand over their soul, for profits sake.

Yes, I recall our previous chat about that, Ha,Ha. ...You never know what to expect, and I guess that's half the amusement!

Thanks for sharing your warm thoughts, with me.
All the best to you.

I still cannot avoid getting excited on your behalf - both on the studies and your upcoming work with P. Gallagher and M. Helms. Your nerves I think is a good sign, nevertheless, because it sound like something you really are eager to carry through. And don't you worry about you not being a "model"! There is a reason these photographers wishes to collaborate with you there is a mutual want for a collaboration; creating something in which you all are an equal part of. Both the progress and result I am sure will be most rewarding, and possibly give you more in prospect, either if that is another collaboration or... well, I don't know. I have a good feeling, is all.

Your view of life (or how to live) sounds reasonable, right - or whatever word that would be more suitable - though I do often find myself wishing it was easier to achieve that balance. I guess there is something to the simple saying 'no pain, no gain' after all. Could still have use for an extra hour or two in the day, though.

Good luck & a grin from ear to ear! (=

I have seen some of his works, but as I don't have a dA account and am under age anyway, it's only been a brief look. However it is interesting how he manages to work with such different models, not one portrait close to being dull. There takes a good photographer to bring the atmosphere into a picture, especially in portraits.
